Showtime at The Muck

(16 photos) Kat and I spent a recent Sunday afternoon at The Muckenthaler Cultural Center, The Muck, in Fullerton, enjoying a classic car show and live band. Janet Klein and Her Parlor Boys, who play Jazz / Pre-war / Vaudeville style music, were absolutely irresistible! The audience was enthralled, utterly captivated by the music and performance. I’m in continual amazement at the wide variety of entertainment available on any given day in Southern California. ~SueBee (photos by SueBee)

A bit of history on The Muck, per their website:

“Commissioned at an original cost of $35,000, the Muckenthaler home was built by Walter and Adella Muckenthaler in 1924 atop a hill in Fullerton. The 18-room, 8.5-acres mansion was donated to the city in 1965 by Harold Muckenthaler, who wished to see his childhood home used as a cultural center for the public.

In 1999, the Muckenthaler received designation by the National Register of Historic Places. In its 49th year, the Muck produces more than 75 performances, gallery exhibits, festivals and special events; and more than 2,000 hours of arts education classes at The Muck and in eight outreach sites serving more than 45,000 people every year.”

That would have been my kind of day. I wish I had been there. Beautifully captured.

One would have to truly love one’s family lineage to hold onto a name like Muckenthaler! And how to shorten: Muck, Muckens, Mucksters, Muckings, Muckons…see it would have been hard I guess…so Muckenthaler it was…for them. 🙂

It’s no wonder they call it The Muck! Such a tongue twister, even for a person who speaks German!

These are some Very Cool pictures! I especially like the close-ups. Really, a dice cover for the tire’s air valve? Cool. And, an entire pop-up trailer for a picnic – someone has their priorities in order.

Thank you! I agree about the details on some of those cars – they are incredible!
