Today’s Sunset at Newport Beach

As I left the office today, worn out from a long workweek, I decided on a drive to Balboa Island, the opposite direction of my home in Orange. I crossed the bridge to the island, parked my little truck, walked to the ferry, hopped on, paid the $1.00 fee, rode over to Newport Beach Peninsula, and meandered down to the beach. The air […]

Near Olvera Street

I was downtown Los Angeles this past weekend for the swearing-in ceremony of California’s new Controller, Betty Yee, and snapped these photos in the area of Olvera Street, the oldest street in Los Angeles. ~SueBee

Lotus Line

Sleepy, rolled up, in denial, not ready to face the day, morning came far too soon, turn off that alarm, I’m going back to bed. (wishful thinking) ~SueBee

Visiting the World’s First Cactarium

An after-lunchtime visit to Moorten Botanical Garden was a nice break between hikes during my recent Palm Springs visit. Established in 1938, it’s a desert lover’s cactus feast. I found their World’s First Cactarium, pictured in this gallery, to be most fascinating, and I’m pleased to know I visited a world’s first! ~SueBee

Room to Express Myself

This week’s photo challenge theme of Express Yourself prompted me to write this post, and upload these photos. As I mentioned in an update to our “About Us” page, Kat moved into her own apartment with her boyfriend, Cam, just a little while back. She’d been gone during her four years of college, and most […]

Weekly Photo Challenge: Express Yourself

People express themselves by wearing pins, waving flags, displaying car bumper stickers and banners, chanting slogans. I gathered my things together for this photo challenge, and was surprised at how much stuff I have! More photos of this week’s challenge are here. ~SueBee

Reclaimed by the Desert

Near Carthay Square, 1

If you want to check out city sights, avoid the usual throng of cars, I suggest you get out early on a Sunday morning. I spent the weekend visiting my son on the west side of Los Angeles; he lives in the Carthay Square area, near Fairfax and Olympic. I wanted to get a photo of […]

Weekly Photo Challenge: Serenity

Solitary moments snatched from life’s chaos to ponder the complexity of our world or simply to gaze at small ripples on the surface of a pond. sigh… serenity. ~SueBeeThis photo was taken at Descanso Gardens in La Canada Flintridge. Hiking the Lykken Trail

Another trail I hiked during my recent Palm Springs visit (I crammed a lot into a two night get-away!) was the North Lykken Trail. It’s not on Indian Reservation land so no entry fee required. I didn’t go up the side of the mountain too terribly far, but the view from as far as I got was spectacular! […]

Route 66 Exhibit

New Year’s Day I skipped the Rose Parade and the football game to visit the Gene Autry Museum of the American West in Griffith Park. Entry was free that particular day, but that wasn’t my motivation. Rather, I wanted to catch the Route 66 Exhibit before it moved on just a few days later. I remember driving […]

Tahquitz Canyon Texter

Hiking up Tahquitz Canyon in Palm Springs, surrounded by cliffs, trail climbing at a pretty stiff pace, water gurgling in the stream down below, brisk, fresh air, and then I see the red hat on this gal sitting on the large boulder (photo opp!)…. it’s not until I view on the computer that I notice she’s texting. Perhaps she’s sharing the beauty of this […]

Around Town in Palm Springs

You may be able to tell I’m having a love affair with Palm Springs! It’s a vibrant, gorgeous town filled with wonderful people. One afternoon during my recent visit, I decided to cruise a few residential areas, view the low-slung homes, palm tree lined streets, soak in the desert atmosphere. Here’s a sampling in this gallery. Are you ready for a […]

Snow Up Top, Palms Down Below

Another beautiful scene from Palm Springs, just west of downtown! A day or two after I left, a really cold storm blew into Southern California and put a lot more snow on the mountains. While I missed that photo opportunity, I’m glad my hikes weren’t interrupted with freezing weather! ~SueBee
