I drove my car about an hour north yesterday for its checkup at the dealership in Salina, Kansas. Before the appointment I had time for lunch at the best Italian restaurant I’ve been to here in Kansas, Martinelli’s. I didn’t want heavy pasta so instead I had a bowl of yummy minestrone soup and a side salad. I then took my car in and read my book in the dealership’s waiting room. It was a cold and damp day and there wasn’t much else to do in the area. Once my car was done, I explored Salina.
The pictures in this gallery feature places that caught my eye: grand old Victoria era homes, smaller, less grand houses, two interesting sets of fire escape stairs, a hair salon sign with the funniest name I’ve seen (Do or Dye Salon), an interesting hamburger joint that’s been around for years, another funny sign (Big Nose Kate’s), a few vacant and very old buildings.
Coming next, a part 2 post will feature murals and sculptures I saw around town. I really enjoyed my visit to Salina! ~SueBee
