I spent a wonderful day exploring in Wichita yesterday, the final day of April, 2026. It was the perfect weather, cool and overcast, my favorite!
First off, I visited a fabric store specializing in remnant pieces, thousands of them all beautifully folded and organized by type and color. After all my years spent dressmaking (Irish Dance costumes), rummaging through the endless rows was very therapeutic. I followed with a visit to a thrift store specializing in artist supplies. I’d never seen such a shop before and was fascinated at the concept. I purchased something at both stores as I like to support independent businesses, and of course, because I needed (not!) something from each.
Continuing my drive across Wichita, I ended up at a big box store (Costco) to wander aimlessly through the rows, grab some samples, which ended up being my lunch, and then on to my favorite grocery store from my Southern California days, Trader Joe’s, where I did find a few things I needed.
Finally, I ended the day at a very favorite spot, Botanica. A really neat exhibit was ongoing, sculptures inspired by origami. Thereafter, with a few drops of rain landing on my head, I headed onto the highway for the beautiful drive through open farmland to reach home. A really nice day ended out April of this year, and now we’re on to May Day! ~SueBee
