(6 photos) Weekend before last I explored the area near Modjeska Canyon and came upon a tiny nature center where I “met” Henry. Having had a tortoise when I was very young, and turtles having been my very favorite animal in those days, I was drawn to Henry. The space he called home was quite comfy and spacious. Henry was amazingly speedy, going up that wooden ramp to meet a another tortoise inside, zipping right along. I hadn’t realized the desert tortoise is California’s official reptile! ~SueBee
