This is the final post of the road trip I made with my long-time friend, Aranka, through Missouri, into a bit of Oklahoma and back through southeast Kansas. We drove just under 1000 miles by the time we were back at my home in Hutchinson, Kansas. As this is the final post, there are more than my usual number of pictures.
From Branson we drove to Afton, Oklahoma, to stay at a timeshare Aranka had reserved for us. I was so excited to see all the Route 66 places in that area as I’d driven on it in California many times, and also a few times on the Arizona section. For those not familiar, per Wikipedia, Route 66 is ” is one of the original highways in the United States Numbered Highway System.” I’ve long been fascinated by it as Route 66 comes to an end in Santa Monica, California, after 2,448 miles from Chicago, Illinois. Route 66’s been mostly replaced by freeways and highways, but we made a point of sticking to it whenever possible as we were in no hurry. The local folks make a point of having vintage displays, little museums, and sights along the way. Such fun!
We had a fabulous trip and saw parts of the country we’d never seen before. Missouri is a beautiful, very lush and green state, and we were impressed by how pretty the Afton, Oklahoma area was. But, the highlights were a tie with Lake of the Ozarks and Route 66 taking equal spots. ~SueBee

That was a good drive.
Yes, next time we’ll rent a car so I don’t put that much more mileage on mine.
