Doughboys Ray and Roy

WWI Doughboys, Ray and Roy, two sides in a single piece, are my fifth Assemblage Art piece. I started with a metal pitcher, a pair of old binoculars, the scoop off an old kitchen ladle, other this ‘n thats, and went from there. The doughboy idea popped in my head after putting the ladle on the top of the pitcher, which reminded me to the helmets worn by soldiers during the first World War. The label on the tin of peaches is an actual reproduction of a food item the soldiers might have eaten during that time period. I printed the image from the internet and affixed to an empty can. I also researched what a radio would have looked like and tried to duplicate the effect using the empty case of a travel alarm clock that I then painted dark green. Lips of both men are pieces of foam I cut and painted, mustaches are burlap fabric cut to shape. The cigarette and cigar are handmade and painted. This piece was completed in March, 2024. ~SueBee
