Readers might think I’d tossed in the blogging towel as I haven’t posted much in the past months, but no. I’ve just found that since moving to Kansas and buying a full-size house with basement on a half acre plot, the hours in each day have shortened by nearly half! It’s a very odd thing that’s happened. I’ve heard similar from other retirees, so I’ll add that reasoning to the mix.
I made a decision with my back yard — letting it return to nature. I’ve been in continual awe seeing what popped up. The most fun has been the sunflowers everywhere, as a result of the squirrel / bird feeders I have placed about, and messy eaters. Sorghum, wheat, and corn are also growing without my help.
I’ve hesitated to pull anything as I’ve not lived in Kansas long enough to identify whether something is a weed or flower. It’s been fascinating! I bought a very old-time push lawn mower and my brother gave me a little weed whacker so I can choose which areas to carefully cut.
Here are some pictures I took out in the yard yesterday. I hope to get back in the photography and blogging mode on a more regular basis. ~SueBee

It is good to see a post from you. I can understand how easily a day can get shortened when you have a half acre yard.
Thank you. Yes, at times I do feel overwhelmed, but so long as the front yard is being professionally mowed, I don’t have quite the same pressure to keep the back continually “up to snuff”.
Just beautiful…made my day!
Thank you so much!
