Sleepy, rolled up, in denial, not ready to face the day, morning came far too soon, turn off that alarm, I’m going back to bed. (wishful thinking) ~SueBee

Today’s Foto Fix was taken in the lower garden area at the Huntington Library and Gardens in San Marino. I do enjoy reflections, but found this one particularly confusing/intriguing when flipped upside down. ~SueBee (photo by SueBee)
Today’s Foto Fix brought to mind William Shakespeare’s words in Romeo and Juliet: “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose, by any other name would smell as sweet”. This particular rose, one of many gorgeous blooms, was captured at Sherman Library and Gardens in Corona del Mar recently. ~SueBee (photo by SueBee)
Sunday was a busy out ‘n about day for Kat and me. From a classic car show in Fullerton, to a dim sum restaurant for lunch, followed by the Arboretum in Arcadia, and ending up at our favorite North Woods restaurant for their famous salads and cheesy bread, we covered the town. Today’s Foto Fix is […]
Springtime photography outing at the Arboretum…love the fuscia and green contrasting colors 🙂 ~Kat (pic by Kat)
This scene reminded me of the western movies I loved as a kid…. brave warriors, lined up, spears proudly held upright, each ready for battle, awaiting the command to attack…the spears then lowered and horses nudged into action. Today’s Foto Fix and story were created at the Los Angeles County Arboretum a week or so […]
Spotted this gorgeous blue jay standing among the bamboo, while I was wandering through the Huntington Library gardens. I just love the vibrant color of these birds…guess it also helps that blue’s my favorite color. 🙂 To see more pics from this amazing place, please view my other articles: “Desert at the Huntington Library,” and […]
Growing in the greenhouse at South Coast Botanic Garden in Rancho Palos Verdes, this little plumeria caught my eye. It reminded me to a time in elementary school (just a few years ago) when the “in” thing with the very artistic crayon crowd was to carefully outline each shape in our pictures. This particular pretty, […]
The Huntington Library is home to an amazing museum, and several stunning gardens. I posted about the museum previously, but thought I’d share some pics from one of the gardens. Out of the 14 different gardens, my favorite is the Desert. Featuring over 5,000 species, I could snap pics here all day long! Below are some […]
Isn’t this the perfect place to pause, relax, breathe in the fresh, garden scents?! Today’s Foto Fix was taken today at Descanso Gardens in La Canada Flintridge, another of our favorite spots. ~SueBee (photo by SueBee)
My auntie and I are photography buds…she taught me how to use my Nikon d5100. I went to the LA Arboretum with her to practice, and used her macro lens to catch today’s “Foto Fix.” Aren’t close-ups awesome?! They’re my favorite type of pics to take, especially when I have a macro lens to use […]
We’ve all had the joyful experience of spotting images in the clouds…”Hey, that one looks like a bunny, see the fluffy tail?!” When I’m on a photography outing, I find myself looking for noticeable shapes in different objects. One day, while on a relaxing, post-rain walk at the Fullerton Arboretum, thinking about my wonderful boyfriend, […]
Since we’re into October now, it’s time to set the mood… starting with a few creepy shots taken in various Southern California gardens, from Fullerton Arboretum to L.A. County Arboretum, Descanso Gardens to South Coast Botanical Garden. The green gourd monster was photographed at Cal Poly Pomona’s Farm Store, the shadows at the Getty. The […]
Small children, grandchildren? I’m guessing they would love the children’s garden at South Coast Botanic Garden, on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, as much as you will! Nursery rhymes are displayed in a separate little garden area, near the entrance. Really adorable! For adults, it’s a great way to reminisce and spend some time out of touch […]
The wonderful season of Fall is officially (and finally) here! Pumpkin Spice Lattes, scarves & boots, leaves changing colors, and of course, Harvest decorations! Descanso Gardens (located in La Canada Flintridge) is my all time favorite botanical garden, especially during this time of year when pumpkins and haystacks are scattered throughout…perfect place for some Fall-themed […]
Looking for a peaceful botanical garden in Orange County that’s just the right size for a nice afternoon walk (about 1-3 miles, depending on route)? The Fullerton Arboretum, located near Cal State Fullerton, is a donation-only garden with a collection of over 4,000 different plants, lakes, and a Heritage House (tours are available Saturdays and […]
I recently stumbled upon this glorious gem of a garden, SLG on PCH in CDM. If those acronyms are throwing you for a loop, I’ll translate: Sherman Library and Gardens on Pacific Coast Highway in Corona del Mar. As described on their website “The Sherman Library & Gardens is a 2.2 acre horticultural retreat. The Gardens […]
