When driving from my hometown of Orange a week or two ago, en route to the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens, I knew I’d have some time to kill because the Huntington wouldn’t be open until noon. So I detoured a bit, starting in Glendora and over through Monrovia, searching out old Route 66. I’d gone to a Route 66 exhibit at the Autry Museum last year, and found it fascinating.
Before leaving home, I’d looked up a few places on the internet that I wanted to check out, but wished I’d had an actual map along rather than a useless iPhone. Seriously, a paper map beats tech 9 times out of 10. At any rate, I found this very cool Aztec Hotel in Monrovia, built in 1925. It wasn’t open, and looked like it hadn’t been for awhile, but is apparently undergoing renovations. I found a website with information, in case you’re interested. It’s a walk back in history! ~SueBee
So beautiful! I hope to see them in person, one day. It’s definitely on my list 🙂 Thank you, Sue! Have a lovely day!
Love Rt. 66 and its landmarks–from beginning to end.
I remember so much of it from when I was a kid! I’d love to travel the entire route someday…
I’ve been on the Illinois, Missouri, and Oklahoma parts of it.
