This is my fourth post showing pictures of my recent cruise with my son, son-in-law, and my brother on the Norwegian Encore to the Inside Passage of Alaska. Today I’m sharing our experience onboard as we viewed the glaciers. They were everything I’d imagined, and more. Below, you’ll see as we’re entering Glacier Bay. (Click on each gallery to view larger images.)

We had such incredible views from our balcony on the 17th floor as the ship stayed in place and rotated, and also from up on the top deck, the 19th floor. I went inside where the Rangers were for a very brief time, but found it too crowded and lacking in the cold and wet that I expected from Alaska! The below pictures show the stunning Margerie Glacier.

While rotating near the second glacier, the Johns Hopkins, my brother and I heard what we thought was thunder. It was LOUD! We quickly realized the sound was made as a chunk of the glacier broke off and crashed down. I was absolutely astounded by how loud it was. Below you can see the result as the chunk hit the water. Had I brought my Nikon with the zoom lens l could have gotten a closer shot, but it all happened so fast that I’m surprised I got what I did with my iPhone.

Below are a few more shots of the Johns Hopkins glacier. A hot tub on the other side of the ship actually had a couple in it! I preferred using the deck surrounding this hot tub as a great vantage point. My dream of seeing a glacier in person, before they’re all gone, was fulfilled. I’ll never forget the experience. ~SueBee

That was an experience. It would be nice to think that we can change our behaviour enough to stop all the glaciers melting.
Yes, I agree. Sadly, too many people continue to think it’s a joke, a political farce. I hope more people wake up.
That would be very good.
