Muzeo in downtown Anaheim opened the coolest, and I do mean coolest, exhibit on Saturday, “Worn to be Wild – the Black Leather Jacket“. It continues until January 12, 2014. Per Muzeo’s website, “Harley-Davidson Museum in partnership with EMP Museum present a dynamic exhibit that traces the path of the leather motorcycle jacket from functional garment to universally recognized symbol of cool.”
The exhibit’s a phenomenal display of history, photographs, stories, and, oh yeah, leather jackets. Lots of leather jackets, famous leather jackets! I was star-struck, having grown up in an era prominently featuring leather jackets on TV and in the movies. The Wild One, Elvis, Grease, Happy Days, Indiana Jones, the Terminator… on and on. Leather jackets made the characters, as discovered by the creators of Happy Days when it was first planned The Fonz would wear a windbreaker. His role, and the show, rocketed to stardom once Fonzie wore his black leather jacket full time. Cool!
Kat and I took lots of pictures, sorted through, and pared down to those in the gallery below and on a separate page (click here to view more photos). The pictures don’t begin to showcase the exhibit as it is in person. If you live nearby, or are able to visit before it moves on, you must go. Find out if you’re Worn to be Wild material. I wouldn’t be surprised if you are! ~SueBee, pics by both SueBee and Kat.
Note, we were given special permission by Muzeo to photograph the exhibit for our blog.
