Posters from the Great War

This collection of posters from the first World War (WWI) was on display at the Huntington Library and Gardens when I was there visiting Stinky.Posters of the Great War (1)

Viewing the posters, one naturally reflects that here we are today, nearly a hundred years, and many “great” wars later, still killing each other. A pitiful statement of certain aspects of mankind. I personally found the message in some of the posters interesting, though, like this one, “Gee, I wish I were a man, I’d join the Navy”,Posters of the Great War (12)

and this one, clearly speaking to class privilege and distinctions:Posters of the Great War (13)

and this poster, with the April 19, 1917 date, nearly five months to the day before my mom would be born (on September 20, 1917), which causes me to ponder the phenomenal number of changes she’s seen in her lifetime.Posters of the Great War (16) ~SueBee (photos by SueBee)

I love old posters. Okay, not so much about war as a subject but they are works of art.
