Last Friday after work, and after dinner at the Crab Cooker, I attended a concert at the Lido Theatre in Newport Beach. When it opened in 1938, the Lido was a movie theater. These days, it’s used for live concerts and occasional special showing movies. I arrived early and felt lucky to get a front row seat! On stage was a Rat Pack tribute trio called The Pack, as Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, and Chairman of the Board, Frank Sinatra. They were fabulous, particularly Dean. The impersonator had his voice and mannerisms down to a “t”. But, as good as he was, Sammy was even better. When he sang Mr Bojangles, it gave me goosebumps. The highlight of the evening, though, was being pulled onstage by Dean to dance with him while he sang Everybody Love Somebody Sometime, one of his signature songs. It was a thrill, I swooned! ~SueBee (iPhone photos)
