I tend to be a spontaneous person; I love the excitement and sense of adventure it brings. This past Friday night, I had dinner with Kat and her boyfriend, Cameron, at a favorite restaurant, Ruby’s, at the Orange train depot. Naturally, the next morning my mind was on trains. So, I looked up the Metrolink train schedule, got myself quickly ready, grabbed my camera bag and headed to the depot. I wasn’t sure where I would hop back off. (By the way, Metrolink has a great deal for weekends, $10, on and off all day, return trip included.) I took the train south, to the end of the line, and about an hour and a half later I was on the coast in the city of Oceanside. Naturally, I took a gazillion photos. It was Armed Forces day, and Oceanside, with Camp Pendleton Marine base nearby, had a full celebration underway at the boardwalk along the beach. As I later discovered, an international youth soccer tournament was also going on at the other end of the beach. I walked over 7.3 miles that day (I know because of the Jawbone UP wristband my oldest daughter got for me), and had a wonderful time! Stay tuned for many blog posts to come, starting with this one featuring some of the friendly people I met, and colorful things I saw. ~SueBee

Strange to see a piper amongst the crowds.
Generally they’re part of most military ceremonies!
