I visited Descanso Gardens yesterday, famous for the extensive collection of camellias. It’s a beautiful place in La Canada Flintridge, a town near where I grew up, and about 50 miles from my current home in Orange. Descanso Gardens had once been the estate of Elias Manchester Boddy and family; the history can be found at this link. While the gardens were far more crowded than I prefer, I was glad not to be visiting this coming weekend for the scheduled Cherry Blossom Festival when it’s bumper-to-bumper people. ~SueBee
