The newspapers have reported here lately about the carpets of wild flowers in the desert due to our rains this year. Saturday, driving out toward the desert with my family for wine tasting in Temecula, we were stuck in traffic and dragging along for miles. Turns out, the hills along the freeway were covered with patches of brilliant orange…. California poppies, our state flower. Naturally, people were inclined to pull their cars over and take pictures, and naturally those driving had to slow down and peer out their windows at those who were pulled over. Very annoying! I didn’t manage to get any pictures then, but decided yesterday on a visit to the Fullerton Arboretum, in the next town over from mine. The poppies were lovely and I didn’t cause a traffic jam. 🙂 ~SueBee
