(12 photos) California suffered through horrible wildfires in recent weeks, particularly Northern California’s beautiful wine country. But, here in Southern California we also had our share of fires. While ours were not nearly as devastating, wildfires are awful, regardless the size.
A few weeks ago, I’d taken my grandpup, Kansas, for an early morning walk at a park I’d never been to before, Irvine Regional Park. Kansas and I had the most wonderful time, exploring, marveling at the natural beauty of the oak groves, and surrounding lush, green hills. I mentioned to my family that having “discovered” the park, it would be my new walking spot.
Not two days later, the wildfires started, raging through northern Orange County and …. homes were burned to the ground, thousands of acres of wilderness areas scorched, several parks devastated. My stomach lurched in reading all the news updates, watching the progress of the fires on the internet, hoping beyond hope that something would be left of the beautiful park I’d been at two days prior.
This gallery features my visit to the re-opened interior section of the park this morning, again with Kansas, and shows you the fire damage on the surrounding hills and open space. My next post will show you what the courageous firefighters saved of Irvine Regional Park. ~SueBee
