I joined Kat, her husband, Cam, their pup, Quincy, and Cam’s extended family, for a camping trip this past weekend in Anza Borrego Desert State Park. The park is about 125 miles southeast from home, with much of the drive on scenic, two lane roads. We were celebrating Cam’s birthday, and Quincy’s first camping trip.
I wasn’t brave enough to camp out the first night and had booked a local hotel. By the second night, though, I decided what the heck, made up a bed in the back of my Subaru Crosstrek with things I’d brought “just in case”, and joined the others at the campsite. I have to tell you, looking at the night sky lit up with stars out my side window and watching the sun come up across the desert was a wonderful experience. We never see more than a few stars living in the city, but out in the desert, in a designated international dark sky area, there was a blanket of stars! ~SueBee
The night sky is sensational when you get the chance to see it.
Yes, I remember it when I was a kid… so many fewer lights back in those days.
