There’s a song I grew up listening to that popped in my head as I took my friends Aranka and George to the Maxwell Wildlife Refuge near the Swedish town of Lindsborg, Kansas a few weeks ago. The song is called Home on the Range, and is considered a traditional American folk song. The lyrics I remember are O give me a home where the buffalo roam, Where the deer and the antelope play, Where seldom is heard a discouraging word, And the skies are not cloudy all day. Seeing buffalo (bison?) on the wide open plains has long been something I wanted to see. The Maxwell Wildlife Refuge didn’t disappoint as you can see from the pictures. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly; we sat in an open trailer, pulled by a pickup truck. It was really cold, but clear and sunny. What an experience! ~SueBee

They are very imposing animals. That was a favourite song of mine when I was young.
