I changed route for my morning walk yesterday, opting for the Fairgrounds rather than my neighborhood. It was opening day of the State Fair which is held in Hutchinson where I now live, and I figured I’d do a brief look-see. (I bought a ticket and plan to spend a day there next week when the temps are forecast to be in the upper 70s rather than the 90s.) I parked a few blocks away (free parking) and walked to the entrance. Since it was opening day and before 11am, I got in for free. In the gallery below, you’ll see just a few pictures I took. More will come next week when I spend additional time wandering around. I have to say the highlight was watching four people (dad, mom, two teenagers), the dad being a very tall, muscular man, trying to pull a stubborn cow where she clearly didn’t want to go. A teenage boy saw me watching and edged over next to me. He laughed as he said they’d been going at it for at least 45 minutes…. and that the cow hadn’t been properly trained. I didn’t take a picture as I didn’t want to embarrass them further. The frustration in the air was thick, but was the visual definition of stubbornness. ~SueBee

I see that cattle and dairy have a strong presence at the fair.
Yes, they certainly do. It was really fun to see the livestock, as well as all the agricultural-related exhibits. It’s a very rural state.
