This week’s WordPress photo challenge asks us to post a photo of the Cherry on Top, the icing on the cake, something adding a finishing touch to that which is already very good. I’m entering with a photo I took this morning of a beautiful caterpillar in my new garden, a caterpillar that will one day become a gorgeous monarch butterfly. I noticed the caterpillar on a donkey tail plant, grown from a clipping of a plant my mom had been growing since I was a child… therefore, a vintage plant! Seeing this rare caterpillar made me smile and was definitely the Cherry on Top of my garden experience this morning! ~SueBee
Further information about the monarch larva from my brother who is quite the science encyclopedia: “They don’t eat enough to really harm the plant. Monarch’s prefer milkweed plants, which are poisonous but don’t harm monarch larva. Once it’s consumed milkweed, the caterpillar itself becomes poisonous. Which protects it from being consumed. It’s coloring is also part of the scheme as it tells predators “hey, better not mess with me!””
Beautifully captured……… 💗
Thank you!
