We had a wonderful family get-together for Thanksgiving yesterday, with lots of feasting and fun. My 96-year-young mom (Kat’s grandma) stayed over an extra night so I could show her my new favorite place of Oak Glen today. This morning, the sky was a dark gray, and rain was coming down pretty steadily as we left. I smiled to myself, knowing there would be fewer people on the mountain!
In Southern California rain means two things for most people… going shopping at the mall to get out of the rain, or staying home watching TV. For me, it means going ‘out and about’ because roads will generally be clear and fewer people will be at the places I like to go. That’s exactly how it turned out in Oak Glen.
We used the umbrella for a very short time, while the remainder of the day was overcast, wintry, and perfect! Mom was bundled up in her oversized “polar bear” coat and scarf.
We toured around awhile, then stopped to have lunch at Hawk’s Head, a 1776 reenactment tavern.
We ordered hot apple cider and corn chowder. Mom enjoyed gazing out the window while a young lady dressed in period costume taught the lengthy task of candle dipping. The cider and chowder were absolutely perfect, delicious, warm, lucious… couldn’t have been better-suited for the weather! I highly recommend you take a drive up the mountain, raining or not, and check out Hawk’s Head! ~SueBee (photos by SueBee)
