Who needs Walden Pond? I’ve got Oak Glen Preserve within an hour’s drive. I’m hooked on that place… completely and utterly addicted.
We Southern Californians often hear how others are envious of our weather with its near-continual sunshine and mild temps. People move here in droves after watching the Rose Parade each New Year’s Day, after seeing our famous blue sky and sunshine yet again. But, some of us long for the four seasons, rainy days, gloomy weather, some (not too much) snow. Now that I’ve discovered nearly-mile-high Oak Glen, I can have my cake (apple pie) and eat it, too!
After having lunch at Hawk’s Head, as I mentioned yesterday, mom and I drove the scenic loop, then pulled into Riley’s at Los Rios Rancho. I wanted to check out the Apple Butter Festival, and wander some of the trails at the Oak Glen Preserve. Mom stayed in the car to people-watch (nap) and off I went. The pond was incredibly photogenic. I kicked myself for not bringing the zoom lens as a really large black bird with bright golden beak was perched on the far side and I could have had the best picture. Ahhh, another reason to go back again soon! ~SueBee (photos by SueBee)

As a native Floridan, I think the weather there is much better (central Fl. down to Keys) Where I’m at now has 4 seasons one of which I like. California is lovely, but the Pacific is much to cold. But you keep posting pics like these, you are going to have half the country move there.:-)
I know we’re spoiled here, and I probably long for four seasons because I’m not living in them. But, I did live a few years in Northern Germany, so know the extended gloomy times well. I didn’t mind so much. And, good point about the people moving out… hadn’t thought about that, but sure do appreciate your compliment to our ability to reach some of them with this blog! ~SueBee
You’ll have an influx because of the blog…lol
