(20 photos in gallery) Continuing from my previous post featuring the San Gabriel Mission District, the photos in this gallery further explore the exterior of the Mission. It was evening and visiting hours were over, so I was only able to see the grounds through the gates. It was interesting enough that I look forward to a return visit when I can wander behind the gates and take the tour. I’m especially curious what the brick-lined vats in the ground were used for.
Leaving the actual Mission grounds, I wandered down the street to a very old Spanish style building. On the gate was a sign telling about a very old grape vine. I’d like to see behind that gate, and maybe sample wine from that very old vine. Next door to the old grape vine, stands the Mission Playhouse. As an example of population shift in this area over the years, the Playhouse was hosting teenagers, all lined up to appear on a Chinese talent show similar to the Voice!
I hope you enjoy my tour of Southern California’s San Gabriel Mission District! ~SueBee
That side of the mission view may even have been enhanced by your lack of access
Views through the fence, yes, I see… adds something for sure!
