(14 photos in gallery) During my recent one night get-away to areas further south of home in Southern California, I explored the San Diego Zoo Safari Park until it got too hot, and then headed to the beach. I stayed overnight in a hotel at the quaint town of Carlsbad and drove further south the next day. I avoided the freeway, took Coast Highway, and explored the towns of Leucadia, Encinitas, Del Mar, and La Jolla. Near La Jolla, a beautiful town just outside of San Diego, is Torrey Pines State Park. I’m baffled I’d never visited previously. My hiking in the park was limited because I didn’t have proper shoes and water along, but I did take several of the walking trails. As you can see by the photos in this gallery, it’s definitely worth another visit. ~SueBee
