While up on the mountain this past Sunday, walking around a tiny “town” (gathering of cute shops and a couple restaurants) called Rim Forest, near Crestline, a young guy saw me with my camera and asked if I wanted to know about a place with great scenery. Naturally, I followed his directions, and ended up taking these pictures at the edge of the world! It’s apparently where the Crestline Soaring Society takes off. There weren’t any gliders while I was there, most likely due to the lack of wind… notice photo of the limp wind sock. What a view, though, what a view… of the city of San Bernardino, surrounding area, and as far as the eye can see.
The views must be spectacular when flying like a bird, but the risk is certainly there. Searching for the Soaring Society’s website, I came across the sad story of a hang glider who met unexpectedly with a tree a few months back. ~SueBee
Good advice to follow.
