Sunny Winter Day
This past week has been quite the change from the previous snow-filled, very cold one. I decided to take a walk at Botanica, the beautiful gardens in Wichita and enjoyed myself thoroughly. ~SueBee

A very delayed third post showcasing photos from the Kansas – Missouri – Oklahoma – Kansas Road Trip I tookwith my longtime friend, Aranka, in September and October. The pictures in this gallery were taken at Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. It’s a very pretty place with great hiking trails, woodlands, lots to see, plus […]
Continuing from my previous post (yes, several weeks hence), the pictures in this gallery feature the drive from Kansas City to Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. The town of Sedalia was fascinating so Aranka and I took a little break there for some coffee. It seems Scott Joplin has some history in that town. My […]
My long-time friend, Aranka, flew out from Nevada this past September 25th, and together we took a nearly 2-week long road trip. We first drove from the airport in Wichita, Kansas to Kansas City. The pictures in this post are from Kansas City, a really neat place I’d like to explore further one day. We […]
My high school friend, now living in Texas, sent me some seeds from her huge moonflower plant. It didn’t take too long before sprouts started shooting up, and then flowers blooming. All blooms had been snow white until this one, a very dainty lavender. ~SueBee
I was in Wichita recently, doing a little exploring on a day when few people were out and about. I’ve found Sundays are a good day for driving around aimlessly as people tend to be at home, leaving the streets empty for me. Most of the pictures in this gallery were taken just to the […]
I had a spontaneous walk through Botanica Gardens in Wichita, Kansas just the other day while in town for other reasons. Other than having completely soaked canvas shoes for my hour-long drive back home, I thoroughly enjoyed walking in the light rain. It’s generally so dry here in central Kansas that having rain is a […]
I’m so pleased with the two hibiscus bushes I planted last year, but I’m particularly fond of this white one. As you can see, if you look closely, a bumble bee is enjoying it, too. ~SueBee
The walk round my back yard this morning was a colorful one. Several of the flowers had popped up on their own, volunteer flowers as they’re called here. I’m ok with their volunteer work. Others are first blooms of bulbs or plants I put in and am happy to see survived the winter!~SueBee
With the snow and ice mostly melted, I decided to try a walk at Dillon Nature Center yesterday afternoon. I took my rubber yard boots along and changed into them before I set off. That was a smart decision because, while the cement path around the lake was fine, the path through the woods was […]
Our weather forecast was quite accurate… 2-5″ of snow expected starting during the night. It’s still snowing right now, mid morning, and it looks to me like 3-4″ has already settled. Lovely to gaze at, probably not so nice if having to get to a job. Ahhh, the joys of being retired! ~SueBee
When the weather is so cold it feels my face could freeze during an outdoors walk, I am happy to have a local indoors option. Granted I have to drive a few miles, but it’s certainly worth it. Our town’s junior college (offering a 2 year program) allows the public to walk laps at the […]
What started as a light snow this past Friday (November 24th), kept on going until our little town in Kansas had anywhere from 9 to 12 inches, depending on which report you read! It’s been beautiful and peaceful, but has been melting away day by day. I’m keeping my fingers crossed in hopes of having […]
I changed route for my morning walk yesterday, opting for the Fairgrounds rather than my neighborhood. It was opening day of the State Fair which is held in Hutchinson where I now live, and I figured I’d do a brief look-see. (I bought a ticket and plan to spend a day there next week when […]
I rode the Southwest Chief route on an Amtrak train last week, taking just over 30 hours to get from Hutchinson, Kansas, to Fullerton, California. My journey was in the Coach section, featuring spacious seats with leg support, a footrest, and pull-out tray. I lucked out again and had two adjoining seats to myself for […]
The nearby town of Lindsborg, Kansas, is always a treat to visit. It’s charming, as you’ll see from the below gallery. Per the city website, “The City of Lindsborg was settled in the spring of 1869 by a group of Swedish immigrants from the Värmland province of Sweden led by Pastor Olof Olsson”. Throughout the […]
Inman is a tiny city less than ten miles north of my home. On occasion, I take a drive to a pizza restaurant on the Main Street there, and generally end up meandering along their country roads after. The population is just over 1300, which, per the internet, is the 9217th largest city in the […]
I was out for a drive and came across endless fields of sunflowers, the state flower of Kansas. I can certainly see why it was chosen. According to this website, “Kansas ranks 4th in the US in sunflower production, and we grow both non-oil as well as oil type varieties. In 2018, 89 million pounds of […]
Readers might think I’d tossed in the blogging towel as I haven’t posted much in the past months, but no. I’ve just found that since moving to Kansas and buying a full-size house with basement on a half acre plot, the hours in each day have shortened by nearly half! It’s a very odd thing […]
I went on an overnight trip exploring the Flint Hills region of central Kansas, and several of the adorable small towns there. Yesterday, leaving Cottonwood Falls and on my way home, I decided to take a small back road. I’d been seeing smoke plumes in various places on the prairie during my two days out […]
