Picking Flowers
Today’s Foto Fix is from April, 2014, when I took my mom to see the Flower Fields in Carlsbad, California. We had a wonderful time, surrounded by endless rows of color, scents of springtime in the air. ~SueBee

Historical sites always draw me in to explore, so on my recent visit to Kansas, I borrowed my son’s car and set off to see Fort Larned, home to the guardians of the Santa Fe Trail as the website states. Knowing the raw deal Native Americans got from our government makes visiting an old fort […]
During my recent Kansas visit, Loren took me to see historical Pawnee Rock. The 360 degree view was great, but I was most drawn to the old graffiti, left by travelers in the late 1800 and early 1900s. Fascinating! Per Wikipedia, “Pawnee Rock is one of the most famous and beautiful landmarks on the Santa […]
My son-in-law, Loren, toured me around the Great Bend, Kansas, area, starting with a visit to Cheyenne Bottoms. Per Wikipedia, “Cheyenne Bottoms is a wetland in the central Great Plains of North America. Occupying approximately 41,000 acres in central Kansas, it is the largest wetland in the interior United States. The Bottoms is a critical […]
I took my Nikon on the plane to Kansas, hoping for good weather and a chance to venture out and about. I had both. My son-in-law, Loren, drove me around the neighboring areas and naturally, I took several hundred pictures! It’s an interesting state with lots to see and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. ~SueBee
I spent the past week visiting my son and son-in-law in Kansas, my first time seeing them since they moved there a year ago, and my first time in Kansas. Being fully vaccinated now, I was finally able to get on an airplane. We had a really nice time together; it felt so normal! I […]
I hiked the Palm Canyon Trail late one afternoon during my Solo Car Camping trip at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, intent on spotting bighorn sheep (borrego, in Spanish). I wasn’t disappointed, except in myself for not lugging my heavy zoom lens along. The sheep were near-impossible to see, as they blend in amazingly well with […]
It can get mighty terrifying in the desert… ~SueBee Per an article I found online on Yelp, “Philanthropist Dennis Avery (Avery labels) commissioned metal sculpture artist Ricardo Breceda to design and construct metal sculptures in scattered property Avery owned in Borrego Valley. He bought the land to keep it from being developed and give access […]
Continuing from my previous post, these pictures show the beautiful desert life at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. ~SueBee
After getting my second Covid vaccine early this past week, and having no side effects, I decided to keep the camping reservation I’d made at Anza-Borrego State Park. My main purpose, other than a change of scenery, was to test out sleeping in my car for future camping trips. Note, I’m not keen on tent […]
Clark Regional Park in the local city of Buena Park, home to Knott’s Berry Farm Amusement Park, was another on my parking pass list of regional parks to explore. Turns out I chose a beautiful day and really enjoyed the terrific walking trails that circled the park’s perimeter. In the park’s center, a pretty lake […]
As I neared the end of accessible walking area at Aliso Beach, I noticed a group of young surfers enjoying the waves, so I caught a few pictures with my iPhone. ~SueBee
I took this picture with my iPhone a few days ago at Aliso Beach (yes, included in my parking pass) in south Orange County, California. It was quite a sight! ~SueBee
Having a list of regional parks available to me using my new parking pass makes it a fun challenge to visit them all and compare notes with myself. Yes, I’ve previously been to a few of the parks, and yes, I could have gone at any time and simply paid the parking fee, but during […]
I looked around after spotting this road runner at Peters Canyon Regional Park, expecting to see Wile E. Coyote, but alas, I didn’t. ~SueBee
Today I have guest pictures from my friend of many decades, Aranka, who lives in Pahrump, Nevada. The first picture was taken out her breakfast room window, the other two as she and her husband, George, drove to Las Vegas. The pictures are beautiful, but also quite a stand-out when you factor in where they […]
Yesterday I checked out the trails at Peters Canyon Regional Park, using my new parking pass. It was my first time at the park which had been nearly destroyed in a massive wildfire a year or two ago (difficult to remember as we’ve had so many years of wildfires). I’m glad the day was cool […]
Using my recently purchased Annual Parking Pass for Orange County Regional Parks, I had a really nice, socially distanced walk at Yorba Regional Park in Anaheim. Being able to take walks in pretty surroundings without driving great distances easily justifies the cost of the pass to me. Included are 16 regional and/or wilderness parks, along […]
Yesterday was quite the experience… being surrounded by hundreds of people after keeping myself to myself over the past 10 months. Yes, face masks were required, so I wore two! I was one of the lucky ones who got an email, after registering on the County website over a week ago, to get my first […]
I’m sharing pictures of selected views from two recent journals I made, one I named Sunshine and the other Swan Lake. Sunshine is based on a Bohemian theme with bright color pictures and sparkly fabrics, while Swan Lake is vintage inspired with softer tones. One of the things I really like about this journal-making hobby, […]
